Rush Meadow & Scarning Fen

Both are SSSIs, the former managed by Norfolk Wildlife Trust. They are separated by the A47. Chalky valley mire, carr, reed beds and grassland. Species: Both sites are more interesting for plants and invertebrates, though geese and owls are listed, as are Marsh Tit, Great-spotted Woodpecker, Bullfinch, Snipe and winter Thrushes. Access: Scarning Fen is south of the A47 to the east of Dereham. Turn onto Fen Rd, bear left, park on road side at TF981121. There is a stile into the reserve and an info board.

Rush Meadow, on the north side of the A47 opp. Scarning Fen. Best to access from Dereham at St Withburga Lane close to St Nicholas Church at TF987132.
